Care-instructions
Keep Your Jewelry Shining for Years
Every Shenhaiex piece is made with love — solid 925 sterling silver paired with natural crystals. With proper care, it will stay beautiful for generations. Follow these simple guidelines.
✨ Daily Wear Tips
- Last on, first off. Put jewelry on last before heading out and take it off first when you get home. This avoids contact with lotions, perfumes, and hair products.
- Remove before: Swimming (chlorine and saltwater), exercising (sweat), sleeping, and cleaning (chemicals).
- Store separately. Each piece in its own pouch or box to prevent scratches between items.
🧼 How to Clean 925 Sterling Silver
925 silver tarnishes naturally — it's not a flaw, just chemistry! Here's how to restore its shine:
Method 1 — Mild soap (recommended for crystal pieces):
- Mix a drop of mild dish soap with warm water in a small bowl.
- Soak the piece for 2–3 minutes.
- Gently rub with a soft lint-free cloth.
- Rinse thoroughly with cool water.
- Pat dry immediately with a clean cloth.
Method 2 — Silver polishing cloth:
For lightly tarnished pieces, simply rub with a treated silver polishing cloth. This is safe for all crystals and settings.
⚠️ Avoid:
- Silver dips or liquid tarnish removers — these can damage crystal surfaces
- Toothpaste — abrasive and can scratch silver plating and crystals
- Salt + aluminum foil hack — too harsh for delicate settings
- Ultrasonic cleaners — some crystals (opal, pearl, tanzanite) can crack
💎 Crystal-Specific Care
Different crystals have different hardness levels. Here's a quick guide:
| Crystal | Mohs Hardness | Care Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Amethyst, Citrine, Quartz | 7 | Durable. Avoid prolonged sunlight (can fade) |
| Topaz, Aquamarine | 8 | Very durable. Safe for most cleaning methods |
| Rose Quartz, Smoky Quartz | 7 | Avoid ultrasonic cleaners |
| Pearl, Turquoise, Opal | 2.5 – 6 | GENTLE only — mild soap + soft cloth. No soaking! |
📦 Storing Your Pieces
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Use anti-tarnish strips inside your jewelry box — they absorb moisture and sulfur in the air.
- Zip-lock bags work great for travel; add a small anti-tarnish tab.
- Before storing, always make sure the piece is clean and completely dry.
🔧 When to See a Jeweler
- Prongs loosen or stones feel wiggly — get them retipped.
- Necklace or bracelet chains kink or break — soldering service needed.
- Plating wears through over years of heavy use — replating option available.
